Victorian Premier Steve Bracks later reiterated the federal legislation had nothingto do with foetuses.
"The legislation before the federal parliament, and the legislation that will be comingbefore the state parliament in Victoria as well concurrently in the session coming up,is all about use of embryos which are left over after reproductive technology and otherwisedestroyed," he told reporters in Dalgety today.
"It is nothing about foetuses, which is subject to different and separate legislationand so it has no material effect at all on the current debate.
"The current discussion and the current legislation is whether or not you're happyto (have) embryos ... not used as part of reproductive processes poured down the sinkand destroyed or used for research at that point.
"(The legislation) is saying we should use it for research and I support that."
